Going into this gen, the first console I got was PS3 (which I sold). I got a 360 as a gift (which I kept). And bought another PS3 (to keep). One of my friends bought a Wii and since we have similar tastes in games, I took his advice on skipping out on the Nintendo console for now.
If I had to choose one platform it'd be PC. If I had to choose one console I'd flip for 360 or PS3. I can't willingly turn down the games on either platform. If I'd skipped out on 360, I'd miss Mass Eff...
On PS3 development:
I don't see how anyone takes issue with the statements of numerous devs. The PS3 was harder to code for. It's pretty much a fact. We haven't worked on it, but we have the word of many industry professionals to back it up. And we have the results to show for it as well. We also have Sony using the cell in their machine, a NEW type of processor. Of course it's going to be harder to develop for than the 360, which was built to ease the dev jump between PC and 360...
devil, if you've never played it, then the scores don't tell you just how well put together it is. "Average" is not a curse. 90% of games released receive average scores and they're great games.
Barring Bluesides's Circle of Doom, a huge departure from what made the series fresh (RTS elements), the series is fine. Fortunately, the original devs Phantagram are back in the picture so expect this to be much much better than a Dynasty Warriors clone.
I would d...
Meh. I thought this would be real news.
Thanks again, twitter. /s
Summer is almost over and the Onlive Beta hasn't begun as promised. Still waiting on anything at all besides articles about "amazing" demos behind closed doors.
Also, "360 vs Onlive"? Isn't this more an industry wide issue?
They've already accomplished the same thing years before with FFXI by using their own servers. Which makes total sense for an MMO. I don't doubt they can repeat it.
Zuper, the economics of the situation is largely accurate.
And there are great PC exclusives I'd put up against PS3 exclusives any day. But truthfully these games aren't being respected for their gameplay. At least in fanboy arguments. So imo it does no good to argue actual substance here. And especially in this case when U2 isn't even out to merit a fair comparison.
Anyway, PC gaming has always been a potentially glitchy experience even if the game in question is a...
Never heard of it, but it'd be pretty hard to regret spending five bucks to find out.
Those are the benefits of having exclusive developers. The job is to make a game that cannot be easily replicated on another platform.
It's been said it before, but MS was foolish to get rid of so much 1st-party potential if indeed they want their games to appear on par with another hardcore console.
HD, lack of a port =/= inability to run.
You're telling us your point is: "it can't run on PC because PCs aren't PS3s"? Pardon me, but no sh*t.
How about Counter Strike? It isn't on PS3. I guess PS3 can't run it. Zeno Clash isn't on PS3. I guess PS3 can't run it. Halo isn't on PS3. I guess PS3 can't run it. The original Metroid isn't on PS3. I guess PS3 can't run it. What a crappy point to make. And you want to talk about ignorance... Sheesh.
This whole thing stinks. The DLC comes out with almost no press or marketing. Highly unlike a Bioware release or their DLC 'Bring Down the Sky'. Imo, Pinnacle Station sucks largely because it doesn't stay at all true to the game's RPG roots. A few lines of new dialogue then shoot a bunch of things in aimless scenarios.
So the rumour goes, this DLC was actually created by Demiurge. That's why it doesn't have the obvious Bioware quality. That does not imo excuse Bioware which reall...
Look, technically speaking, console hardware was outdated the moment it came out. PS3 and 360 were already old tech compared to then contemporary gaming PCs.
The reason it looks like consoles are "catching up" is because for many reasons devs find it more profitable to NOT take advantage of the superior specs of the average gaming rig.
Furthermore, if they didn't use older tech, your consoles would not be available to you at the meagre prices they are now...
I haven't played MGS4 all the way through just yet, but damned if there haven't been some list worthy moments already.
ME's Sovereign attack on Citadel was great. The entire tail end of that game is incredible. I agree, it's a really big moment done very well indeed. But yeah, I think once was enough per game.
Your list though.
Perfection is never the issue. Most publications make it a point to say up front that a perfect score does not make a perfect game. It implies excellence of execution in the reviewers' opinion.
Well, minorities tend to be sensitive when they've been treated like crap for hundreds of years by the majority. But I think that's besides the point.
This is a stupid marketing gimmick executed very poorly.
I like how the Black/White guy seems to be working from an Apple laptop.
To be perfectly frank, I'd rather have them make new games. SE isn't the same as it was way back then.
I don't care for much of any of the FFVII Compilation stuff. The original game had a very different look and feel compared to the expanded content. I feel like the new stuff is way too futuristic, especially for a world that is supposed to have abandoned the advances brought about by Mako energy. It's almost like comparing the original Star Wars trilogy and the new movies. Some...
About the only game anyone can agree on is GTA IV. And it's pretty obvious just how overrated it is if you've played any other GTA before it.
I was sure this series would be crap because of the seeming commercialization, but instead was thoroughly blown away. This is one of those titles that is a LOT better than it looks at first.
Pandemic can get it done.
Star Wars games
Destroy All Humans
Full Spectrum Warrior
None of these are bad games or even mediocre. What they have is at least one very public piece of crud which is Mercs 2 on PS2. The PC version technically came closer to how the game was meant to be. But that doesn't help when the version that sells more is so crappy. Still, that's only one genuinely bad game out of a bunch.
Two if you include that lacklustre...
It's just immaturity. Something to get over.
The industry is young and those perceptions will subside as more women get publicity in the biz.
As a (male) gamer, I've always preferred the PC gaming community. It's not an option for everyone I guess, but it usually has a more diverse demographic. Although it's not immune to jerks either.
